Dialog #1

“Hi, I’m from the phone company, we’re here to install your telegraph line.”

“Uh, I didn’t ask for a telegraph line…”

“Well it says 324 Oakview drive right here sir, step aside.”

“Yeah, Im not letting you install a telegraph line here.”

“Oh come on, it’s not that bad

“It’s a telegraph line. It’s 2007. It’s antiquated.”

“Nonsense, everyone’s using telegraphs these days. Come on now, let me get to work.”

“Uhm…”

“Well this is bad news for you. Looks like SOMEONE is a little too far from the central office. We’ll have to install a new power converter here.”

“How much will that cost?”

“Only about six thousand dollars.”

“That seems a little bit excessive…”

“It’s worth it. With this, we can extend telegraph service to you AND your neighbors. The only downside is that you’ll hear their messages.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea…”

“Of course it is! Now where is your steam boiler?”

“We don’t have one.”

“No problem, I’ll just have to erect an 80 foot windmill in your backyard.”

“When will that be done?”

“1886. Sign here please.”
